STARTEK Engineering Inc. is a pioneer in researching and designing cutting-edge fingerprint products and now continues to provide new fingerprint biometrics solutions. We are devoted to increasing convenience and decreasing cost for customers.
STARTEK Engineering Inc. develops key components and technology and provides various fingerprint applications and system integration services. For example, Embedded Module FCP300 Series include fingerprint identification, fingerprint reader, and fingerprint SDK. The series has a wide range of applications but focuses on authentication. Access Control & Time and Attendance Systems have the applications for fingerprint identification, fingerprint reader, fingerprint SDK, and fingerprint time clock. Fingerprint time clock ensures accurate time and attendance records. In addition, WSA Solution provides customers with the technology such as fingerprint identification, fingerprint SDK, and fingerprint reader.
IT Products apply secure and convenient management and image capturing. Through our efforts for outstanding products, STARTEK Engineering Inc. owns 6 kinds of patent. The brand STARTEK is registered in numerous countries including the Americas, England, Italy, Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, China, and has sold products in over 10 countries.
Chairman Mr.Lin

Mr. Jeffery C. Lin has been the Chairman of the Board of the Company since its establishment. He brought to the Company great vision and passion. Also born in 1950, Mr. Lin inherited the traditional value and business skills from family owned business- Men-Yi Textile Co., one of the most successful textile company in Taiwan. A high school classmate of Dr. Hsu, Mr. Lin later on attended National Taiwan University, majored in Chemistry. Mr. Lin also has a master degree in Material Science from University of Kentucky, USA. Mr. Lin is an entrepreneur, after spending several years as engineer. He founded his own company- Sunny Special Dyeing and Finishing Co. in 1984 and co-founded Startek with Dr. Hsu in 1989.
Mr. Lin is currently the Chairman of the Board of Allied Industrial Co. (AIC), a leading supplier of disperse dyes in Asia. AIC is a public company. His other ventures including Wintek Co., one of the major supplier of STN type LCD where he served as Vice Chairman of the Board.

CAREER BACKGROUND
General Manager Dr.Hsu

Dr. Wen-Hsing Hsu is the founder and General Manager of Startek Engineering Inc. He was born in Taipei in 1950, his father was a doctor in Taiwan National Hospital who was aggressively releasing his theses in various academic associations well into his sixties. This kind of career-long commitment has influenced him greatly.
His academic career was quite smooth. After graduating from Chien-Kuo High School in Taipei, he got into the electronic engineering department of Cheng-Kung University. Unlike most people that chose the States as the destination for further education, Wen-Hsing Hsu chose Japan as the country for pursuing graduate study. He got into Keio University, Tokyo, Japan, to study electronic engineering.
Keio University is one of Japan's most historic universities. Wen-Hsing Hsu received both his M. E. and doctoral degrees there. Under the supervision of the director of Engineering department, he studied statistical theories and computer theory in the beginning. Later, he was engaged in the study of computer assisted teaching, visual psychology; in the last stage of his doctoral studies, he focused his studies on image processing, pattern recognition and published some ten related papers. He received his doctoral degree in March, 1982.
During his study in Japan, Wen-Hsing Hsu was the president of R.O.C. Keio students' association and the vice president of R.O.C. students' association, and also was the editor of Studying in Japan Journal. After finishing his study, he decided to come back to Taiwan in Aug. 1982 to realize his dream, choosing National Tsing Hua University as the starting point of his research career.
After working diligently for one and half years, he established a visual processing laboratory. During these two years, the research of Chinese OCR methods was his major field. Later, he noted that if theories can not be tested they are in vain. Thus, he started to explore the possibility of processing images with high speed, such as parallel algorithms. Based on that, he developed an automatic fingerprint verification system, auto-optic picture, reading and automatic car plate reading system.
In the summer of 1987, he realized that image processing technology embedded on the structure of the computer would not amount to a great accomplishment. Thus, he gave up traditional concepts and started to explore new fields. By observing the way people feel and think, he included these elements in his research. In July 1988, Wen-Hsing Hsu finished the first prototype regarding human feeling model that was immediate accepted and published by the most prestigious magazine, Pattern Recognition, in the pattern recognition field.
Although existing fingerprint systems are mostly employed for law enforcement purposes, Wen-Hsing Hsu believes that fingerprint verifying systems possess very big market potential. Future world will be the age of electronic authentication, and fingerprint verification will fulfill the function of gatekeeping.
In the end of 1989, he and several ex-classmates co-established Startek Engineering Inc. as the world's one and only company dedicated to fingerprint verification system.
Right now, there are more than forty companies worldwide engaging in the research of fingerprint verification, but only a few have the capacity to transform it into commercial products. Based on solid R&D resources, Startek's fingerprint products have won a series of prizes and awards inside and outside the country, and the fingerprint technology are comprising fingerprint SDK, fingerprint reader, fingerprint identification, fingerprint time and attendance system with fingerprint time clock, and so on. Wen-Hsing Hsu has become a renowned figure in the optics field. Wen-Hsing Hsu believes that Taiwan stands a good chance to become the worldwide hub of fingerprint verification technology and is confident that the dream will be realized step by step. If this comes true, it will not just re-write the human life, and will set up a milestone in the history of Taiwan hi-tech development.
